OHT Valerie Teng

Dip in Oral Health Therapy 2022, Nanyang Polytechnic, Singapore

By virtue of her distinguished accomplishments, she was awarded several accolades; including the Health Promotion Board Gold Medal Award, Singapore Dental Association Award for Clinical Education in Dental Hygiene, and the Nanyang Polytechnic Calyon Creativity Award. Being the best student in Dental Hygiene, she has also clinched the prestigious Hu-Friedy Golden Scaler Award.

Valerie’s love for dentistry certainly does not stop after her diploma. Her keenness in dentistry was shown by her diligent attendance at the Continuing Education programmes organised by the Association for the Oral Health Therapist (Singapore). Upon graduation, she also formally joined the same association and has hopes to contribute in return.

Valerie’s dream of becoming an Oral Health Therapist was all because of her poor oral hygiene as she disliked brushing her teeth. However, she recalled how the Oral Health Therapists at the school dental centre were so joyful, patient, and skilful with her, and that inspired her to be like them one day. Through her role as a dental hygienist at Asia Pacific Dental Centre, she aims to actualise the vision of leaving a sweet and sparkling smile on every patient.

Simultaneously, Valerie is also working on a group publication that researches children’s toothpaste sold in the local market. Fuelled by her team’s hard work and effort, they are hoping to publish and present it in Singapore.

Just like many avid drama lovers, during her leisure time, she would be engrossed in many series of her favourite Korean dramas!
